Hello!

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel, fashion, and academia. Hope you have a nice stay!

Looking back on our trip to Zürich two weeks ago, I can think of two things: the conference I talked about in my last post, and the end of summer. It was very, very hot and very, very sunny the entire time we were there... and then it plummeted in temperature a few days after we got back. Consequently, all my pictures from Zürich are very bright. You can see my favorite shots below:

The afternoon of the first day of the conference, I took off on my own for a few hours to walk around and see as much of the central part of the city that I could. I didn't linger in one place for too long as I got harassed not one, but three different men (one who asked to take a selfie with me?!). When A and I got on the tram that morning, my initial impression of Zürich was that it was much bigger and more cosmopolitan than Geneva. That impression started to go away as soon as I started walking around by myself. Zürich feels more Swiss than Geneva, but it stopped feeling huge. The city /is/ bigger than Geneva, but similarly, its Old City and central areas are quite compact and easy to navigate on foot.

One of my favorite strategies when exploring big cities is to find the big streets and then dip in and out of its side streets. It's a good way to see smaller shops and establishments, avoid crowds, and to not get lost.

One of my favorite things about Swiss towns and cities is that they tend to be quite floral, and Zürich was no exception.

One thing Zürich has that Geneva doesn't is wall murals. Few buildings in Geneva are painted like this, but I found quite a few walking around Zürich.

We were supposed to visit the Grossmünster on the last morning we were in town, but my blood pressure dropped as we were touring the Landesmuseum, so I ended up spending the rest of the morning in a coffee shop with Rory, waiting to stop feeling lightheaded. I'm sad I missed out, but I'm sure there will be more trips to Zürich in the future...

So many little side streets with wonderful little architectural features!
